Charles meets hero bomb dog Jake

The Prince of Wales has met a hero of the July 7 bombing - a Cocker Spaniel called Jake.

Within three minutes of the Tavistock Square blast the canine explosives ace was at the scene checking for further devices. He also carried out searches at Russell Square.

For his effort, Jake, who jumped on Charles during a visit to London's Charing Cross Police Station, received the Animal's George Cross dog service bravery award.

Jake's handler, PC Bob Crawford said: "Its just another day for him. He's used to meeting people but he was very keen to say hello."

Charles also got to fire a Taser stun gun at a foil target and to play with the high-tech gadgets on a police 999 response car which had the call sign Charlie One.

He was accompanied by the Duchess of Cornwall who joked: "Don't press any buttons," as Charles was handed the gun and: "Are you going to drive away with it?" as he pressed the car siren.

PC Mark Edwards said: "We called up Dyfed Powys Police Station in the car for a radio call check - they were a bit surprised."

The couple dropped by the station as a thank you on behalf of The Princes Trust for the work that officers do in the community. Charles also wished a "Happy St George's Day" to staff overlooking the police yard as they waved St George's flags.

The couple also saw a custody suite plus fingerprints and DNA sampling devices. There was also a quick trip to say hello to staff in the canteen.

They also met officers from the mounted branch, the Cycle and Safer Neighbourhood unit and those dealing with the homeless.
